Human Rights Monitoring Institute - Stakeholders

Human Rights Monitoring Institute (Žmogaus teisių stebėjimo institutas-ŽTSI) is a non-governmental, not-for-profit public advocacy organisation based in Vilnius (LT). Since its establishment in 2003, HRMI has been advocating for full compliance of national laws and policies with international human rights obligations and working to ensure that rights are real and effective in practice.

The team of HRMI lawyers and public policy experts carries out research , drafts legal and policy briefings , compiles reports  to international human rights bodies, undertakes strategic cases  before domestic and international courts, provides expert  consultations and legal services , engages in various national and international projects , delivers conventional  and distance  trainings to law enforcement officers and other professionals. In 2012, HRMI was appointed the national operator of the EEA Grants NGO Programme in Lithuania.

Among its fields of activity, the Institute focuses of freedom of expression, privacy and digital rights.

PEN International - Stakeholders

PEN International is the worlds leading association of writers, working to promote literature and defend freedom of expression around the world. Founded in 1921, today it connects an international community of writers from its Secretariat in London, spanning over 100 countries, with 149 PEN Centres worldwide. PEN's campaigns, events and programmes connect writers and readers, strengthen freedom of expression, defend linguistic rights and promote quality education at the national, regional and international level across the globe. PEN International is a non-political organisation which holds Special Consultative Status at the UN and Associate Status at UNESCO.

International Journal of Communication - Stakeholders

The International Journal of Communication  is an online, multi-media, academic journal published by USC Annenberg Press. As an interdisciplinary journal, IJoC is centered in communication and open to contributions from the many disciplines and approaches that meet at the crossroads that is communication study.

The Journal grants public access to articles, free of charge, at no charge to authors. Contents are available to all readers under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 4.0 license.

European Law Students' Association (ELSA) - Stakeholders

ELSA is an independent organisation run by and for students in the field of European Law. ELSA has 43 Member and Observer countries with more than 300 Local Groups and 42,000 students. 

In 2015, ELSA set up an International Legal Research Group on Freedom of Expression and Protection of Journalistic Sources which conducted an investigation across 28 different countries to assess safeguards and challenges to confidentiality of journalistic sources.

IFEX - Stakeholders

IFEX was created in 1992 in Montréal, Canada, when a dozen leading free expression organisations came together to create a coordinated mechanism to rapidly expose free expression violations around the world. 

The IFEX network of organisations is connected by a shared commitment to defend and promote freedom of expression as a fundamental human right. IFEX members work at the local, national, regional and international level, spanning 65 countries 

Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism - Stakeholders

The Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism marks the University of Oxford's commitment to creating an international research centre in the comparative study of journalism. Anchored in the recognition of the key role of independent media in open societies and the power of information in the modern world, the Institute aims to serve as the leading forum for a productive engagement between scholars from a wide range of disciplines and the practitioners of journalism.

Established in 2006, the Institute is based at the Department of Politics and International Relations  at the University of Oxford . It brings the depth and rigour of academic scholarship of the highest standards to major issues of relevance to the world of news media. It is global in its perspective and in the content of its activities. Core funding for the Institute is provided by the Thomson Reuters Foundation .

Columbia University Global Freedom of Expression Initiative - Stakeholders

The Columbia University Global Freedom of Expression Initiative  seeks to contribute to the development of an integrated and progressive jurisprudence and understanding on FoE and FoI around the world.

Columbia Global Freedom of Expression was established in 2014 by Columbia University President Lee C. Bollinger , a noted First Amendment scholar, bringing together international experts and activists with the University’s faculty and students to survey, document, and strengthen free expression. Dr. Agnès Callamard, a distinguished human rights advocate and former director of the organization ARTICLE 19, is executive director.

International News Safety Institute - Stakeholders

International News Safety Institute was founded in 2003 to provide safety advice and training to journalists to ensure safe working conditions also when covering conflict, civil unrest, corruption, or natural and man-made disasters. INSI counts as its members some of the world’s leading news organisations, such as Reuters, CNN, the BBC, Al Jazeera, ABC, NBC and the Guardian. 

International Research & Exchanges Board (IREX) - Stakeholders

The International Research & Exchanges Board (IREX) was established as an NGO in 1968 in Washington DC. The official mission of the NGO is to sustain individuals and institutions in order to enable a vibrant society. One of its seven areas of intervention is media development. Every year, IREX issues the Media Sustainability Index (MSI), with funding from USAID, providing in-depth analyses of the conditions for independent media in 80 countries across the world.
